Holidays are here and finally, there are get-togethers. Even though we all love the chance to spend time with our friends, cleaning up can be a hassle when you are hosting. We’re going to share 7 tips for making the clean-up after a party easier and more efficient so that you can focus your energy on enjoying the moment. You can watch Kelsey discuss these tips with our local news station, or continue reading below.
Tip 1: Use Kraft Paper to Cover Appetizers and Serving Stations.
The use of Kraft paper for party cleanup is not only convenient, but it also looks great and makes your food pop. You can make a grazing table for carrot sticks, chocolate cake or any other food without using tablecloths or trays. If you like, you can add some color to the kraft paper by writing something on it. Once you’re done wrapping it up, you can throw it out.
Tip 2: Make Trash Cans Accessible.
Place multiple pop-up garbage cans around the main areas to make it easy for your guests. These can be purchased in three packs. I prefer the heavier duty ones. This prevents the main trash can from being overfilled and encourages people not to leave their disposable items around. Keep a bag in the bottom of your trash can just in case.
Tip 3: Do your Dishes before the Party.
An empty dishwasher would be ideal, but an empty sink will do. Fill your sink or a basin with soapy tap waterspan mce-fragment=”1″, data-mce style=”font weight: 400 ;”>. Encourage guests to place empty plates or dishes directly into the bin. You can easily load your dishwasher or wash dishes by hand when you clean up after the party.
Tip 4: Assign Glasses.
You can reduce the amount of cleanup after a party by assigning glasses with cute markers. Or, you can write on them using a Sharpie. It will reduce the amount of cups that you need to clean up after a party. Always place coasters on any surfaces that are delicate. Some of them dry instantly, so there’s no need to worry about water stains on your tables after cleaning.
Tip 5: Don’t Forget Take-Home Containers.
Prepare containers for guests to take home at the end. This is a great way to start cleaning up after the party. As the party ends, I’ll put them out, and as soon people clear off the serving dishes, they go straight into the soapy drain.
Tip 6: Pre-Set a Cleaning Station.
Set up a designated cleaning area, complete with paper towels, sponges, and multipurpose cleaners. Consider using gloves to clean up messier areas and a small bag or bin for the immediate disposal of trash. After-party cleanup is a breeze with this method. Cleaning stations ensure that all the items you need are readily available and ready for use, saving you time. This streamlines your post-party cleanup.
Tip 7: Use scented candles or Fresheners.
Use air fresheners or scented candles to ease the cleanup after your party. This will not only create a nice atmosphere at your party but also help to eliminate any lingering smells. For a fresh feeling, I prefer lavender or citrus. Vanilla or cinnamon creates a more cozy atmosphere. Keep air fresheners and candles away from food to preserve the quality of the food.
